What changed after the reviewThe reviewer pointed out five places where our wording went further than the research supports. We changed each one before marking the page as reviewed:
- Accuracy figures from the original RAADS-R study are now described as results in that study's sample, with a note that later research in clinical populations found substantially more false positives.
- Scores below 65 are described as associated with a lower likelihood of autism — not as ruling autism out.
- The 2025 NovoPsych figures are described as specificity measured against AQ-based criteria, i.e. psychometric data rather than evidence of a diagnosis.
- The 106-139 range is no longer labelled "Consistent with Autism"; it is described as associated with elevated autistic traits that may warrant a comprehensive assessment.
- High scores are described as greater endorsement of autistic traits, to be interpreted with developmental history and a clinical interview — not as "very high correlation" or "rare false positives".
How we review
